I am Sanna Kivijärvi, a postdoctoral researcher and teacher at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, Finland. I am also affiliated with the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, where I teach in the Creativity and Arts in Social and Health care master's program. 

My research interests are interdisciplinary, combining music education, education policy and sociology of the arts. I have published several peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on accessibility, equity and other policy issues in Finnish music education system and beyond. I also serve as a reviewer and board member for academic journals, conferences and funding bodies.


At the Sibelius Academy and Metropolia University, I teach students at undergraduate, master's and doctoral level in research seminars and methodology courses, including theses supervision, as well as pedagogical courses, such as special education in the arts and basics of music teaching. I frequently hold visiting lectures and present papers in international and domestic conferences in education and the related fields.

I am a co-director at Just Accessible Music, a music school and research centre located in New York City and in Connecticut, USA. During the academic year 2019–2020, I worked as a Fulbright research fellow at Teachers College, Columbia University and as a visiting research scholar at Steinhardt School of New York University. I serve in several positions of trust, including the Equity and Equality Board of the University of the Arts Helsinki.
